Wicked is a Tony Award-winning West End and Broadway musical. The songs and lyrics for the musical are created by Stephen Schwartz. They story is based on the book written by Winnie Holzman. Wicked was first shown in Broadway on October 30, 2003. Back then, it was produced by Universal Pictures. The play was directed by Joe Mantello with Wayne Cilento handling the musical production.
From its success in Broadway, on the musical went on to go on a tour. It visited to the cities of Chicago, West End, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, just to name a few of their stops. Wicked’s first national tour was happened in Toronto, Canada in March 8, 2005.
This year, the musical’s on-stage performance will commence September 10, 2009 at the Gershwin Theatre. Wicked’s 2nd national tour in the U.S. was staged at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall located in Fort Myers. In those performances, the role of Elphaba was played by Marcie Dodd and Helene Yorke was Glinda.
After the 2nd national tour, Wicked will be staged on September 5, 2009 in Sydney, at the Capitol Theater. Their official opening is on September 12, 2009. Production staff sees the return of their many Melbourne casts. This includes Jemma Rix who plays Elphaba, Lucy Durack as Glinda, Rodney Dobson as Doctor Dillamond, Maggie Kirkpatrick as Madame Morrible, Penny McNamee as Nessarose, and Bert Newton as the Wizard.
Their next production will be in Osaka, which will begin on October 11, 2009 at the Osaka Denstu Shiki Theater. Then it will be transferred to Tokyo. The casts and performers for the Japan shows are to be announced. In 2010, Oberhausen production will be staging the musical and they will be performing at the Metronom Theater in Centro on March 17, 2010. In Broadway, Wicked is scheduled at the Gershwin Theatre and will run until July 2010.
