The Great Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox is a baseball team established in 1901. They are one of the current members of the American League, East Division. The team was also one the eight original charter members of the American League. The name Red Sox was chosen by its team owner John I. Taylor. It actually refers to the red hose in the team’s uniform.
The Red Sox is also known simply as the Sox, The Olde Towne Team, the Bosox, and The Nation. The team’s first ballpark is the Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds. Currently though, they are playing at Fenway Park. The Red Sox’s official colors are red, white, and midnight navy. Their official logo is a simple a pair of high red socks.
In 1901, Ban Johnson of the minor Western League declared equality between the minor league and the major league. He then changed his league’s name to American League. The upstart franchises in this new league are Baltimore, Buffalo, and Maryland. Not long after, he decided to put a team in Boston that will compete in the NL. However, they cancelled the Buffalo franchise and instead, offered it to a new club in Boston. That was the start of the history of the Boston Red Sox.
It was in 1903 when the Red Sox won their first AL Pennant. They repeated that triumphant feat the following year. Inspired by their first few victories, the team continued to fight. As a result, the Red Sox bagged 7 World Series titles, 12 AL Pennants, 6 East Division titles, and 6 playoff berths. The team is presently owned by Tom Werner, John Henry, and Larry Lucchino. Terry Francona is the team manager and Theo Epstein serves as the team’s general manager.
The Boston Red Sox has always been a title contender. They are a very popular team, with their franchise topping the road attendance statistics for several years now. They are selling out most of their home games, although Fenway Park doesn’t have as big a capacity as the other ballparks being used by other teams today.
