New York Jets Brief History

The New York Jets was established in 1960 as the official professional football team of New York. The team is part of the Eastern Division of AFC in the National Football League. Their headquarters is located in Florham Park, New Jersey. They started in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League under the name New York Titans. The New York Jets holds the merit for being the first AFL team that had beaten an NFL club, the Baltimore Colts, in Super Bowl III.

And so after 5 to 9 more seasons, the team’s future is headed into bankruptcy. But before that happened, five men composed of Donald Lillis, Philip H. Iselin, Townsend B. Martin, Leon Hess, and David “Sonny” Werblin saved the day. They bought the New York Jets franchise from Harry Wismer for $1 million on March 13, 1964.

Just after Hess, Martin, Lillis, Werblin, and Iselin assumed their places as the team owners they immediately renamed the team’s name to New York Jets. And from Polo Grounds, they transferred to the Shea Stadium for their new home field. The Shea Stadium is actually close to the La Guardia Airport where the roaring sounds of the jets are heard during the games.

As of this year, the color of their uniform is changed to hunter green and white. Their uniform bearing the original colors was made as an alternative suit. The team’s logo underwent lots of changes from 1963 up to the present time. The New York Jets bagged the 1968 AFL-NFL Super Bowl championship. They also have four division championships from AFL East and AFC East.
