St. Louis Rams Brief History
The St. Louis Rams are the official team of the state of Missouri. They are part of the Western Division of the NFC under the NFL. The team started playing in 1936, not in Missouri but in Cleveland. They used to be known as the Cleveland Rams. It is only when the team joined the NFL that they frequently changed their name. During the merge, only four players were retained in the original roster and none of the team’s manager joined the new team. The Rams also moved to Los Angeles and were called the Los Angeles Rams at one time. Then they moved again to St. Louis during the 1995 season. That’s when the name St. Louis Rams came to be.
The Rams were founded in 1936 by Homer Marshman, who is a distinguished attorney. The name Rams is actually the nickname of Fordham University. The team used the name to further recognize the football players who hailed from the university.
During the start of the team’s career, problems of low sports attendance hounded them. They keep moving franchises, locations, and home fields to produce better revenue. From Cleveland, they went to Los Angeles, and then to St. Louis - all in the hope to find better turn out and higher profits during the games. Right now, the Rams are conveniently housed at the Edward Jones Dome. They’ve been using it since 1995, although they started with the Busch Memorial Stadium during the first half of that year.
The Rams did a good job on the field. They were holders of 3 league championships, which included one Super Bowl title in 1999. They won six conference championships and 15 division titles. They are consistently in the playoffs with 27 appearances. Currently, there are 13 players, coaches, and owners who have entered the NFL Hall of Fame since the team started its career in 1936.
