Cleveland Cavaliers Brief History

The Cleveland Cavaliers hails from Cleveland, Ohio. The team was established in 1970 and started playing in the NBA as an expansion team. Cleveland Cavaliers is a member of the Eastern Conference of the Central Division in the NBA. The team’s home court is the Quicken Loans Arena, formerly Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

In the 1970, Cleveland Cavaliers was under the ownership of Nick Mileti. They played in their home court at the Cleveland Arena with Coach Bill Fitch at the helm. The team finished the league-worst record of 15 wins and 67 losses in that season. In 1971, the Cavs wanted Austin Carr from Notre Dame to play for them. Austin Carr had set numerous scoring records in his league. But to the team’s disappointment, Carr was severely injured in the leg area and had failed to recover amply to become the great player that he should be.

During the next few seasons, the Cavs slowly improved their home-court performance. They tried to add talented players every year. They added Bingo Smith, Dick Snyder, and Jim Cleamons. The Cavs improved their record to 23-59 and 32-50 in their sophomore season. As the team moved to their new home the Richfield Coliseum, they set their records to 40-42, falling short of a playoff berth. In the 1975 season, the Cavs delivered a 49-33 win-loss card that gave them their first division title. Also, Bill Fitch received his first Coach of the Year award with the Cavs. The Cleveland Cavaliers started to make a name in the NBA.

The several losing seasons of the Cavs, which lead them to the bottom of the league, gave them a perennial spot in the lottery draft. They have selected LeBron James, who they believed to be the future MVP. He didn’t disappoint as he became Rookie of the Year and hoped to continue his to rise to basketball stardom in the following seasons.

The team faced a lot of struggles with their coaches, team owners, and even co-players. This affected their team standing. But they all continued to moved on and give it their best shot. The team’s official colors are gold, navy blue, and white.
